Mindfulness is synonymous with present moment awareness. Mindfulness is being aware of what is happening now, in the present, with an open, unbiased, and accepting attitude to whatever comes up. Mindfulness is a skill and, like any skill, it must be developed through practice. The more it is practiced, the stronger the mindfulness. Mindfully noticing and listening to sounds may be substituted for the breath in any of the exercises. Walking meditation is another broader awareness exercise that many people enjoy. Informal mindfulness practice can be done anytime in any situation. Mindfulness meditation increases attentional regulation and the important mental skill of conflict monitoring so that one can recognize and disregard irrelevant thoughts and feelings while continuing to maintain our attention and present focus on the kinds of actions and behaviors that support trading.
